A teacher and a student, both first
At the Bradshaw & Buono International Piano Competition, Andrew Vargas took First Prize in the High School Division and Jennifer took First Prize in the Professional Division.
It was the first time in the competition's history that a teacher and a student both placed first (The Daily Oklahoman, May 7, 2017).
Andrew Vargas was added to the Steinway & Sons roster of Young Steinway Artists at sixteen, and is now a professional pianist and teacher.
PianoTexas
PianoTexas International Festival & Academy at Texas Christian University selects 24 pianists worldwide each year by audition for its Juniors Program.
Students from this studio were selected in 2018, 2024, and 2026.
In 2016, a student won the concerto competition in the festival's Young Artists Program and performed Liszt's Piano Concerto No. 1 with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra.
Carnegie Hall
Students have performed at Carnegie Hall and Weill Recital Hall as winners of international competitions in 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2026.
MTNA
Students have placed in the Oklahoma state competitions of the Music Teachers National Association every year since 2015, including state winners in the Junior and Senior divisions. Andrew Vargas won the South-Central Division and reached the national finals of the MTNA Senior Piano Competition in 2017.
Results are published by the Oklahoma Music Teachers Association.
Oklahoma City Philharmonic
In the Orchestra League's 2024 Young Musician Competition, five of the six piano winners were students from this studio.
BeforeLuca had just begun to play piano when he joined Song piano studio.
NowIn the past 5 years, he has gone from a beginner to winning the Oklahoma City Philharmonic Youth Competition.
After the studio
Students have been admitted to Princeton, Harvard, Duke Medical School, Johns Hopkins, Penn, Cornell, Dartmouth, Vanderbilt, Michigan, North Carolina, NYU, UC Irvine, Boston College, Boston University, Washington, Brandeis, SMU, Baylor, TCU, Colorado, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, North Texas, Oklahoma Christian, Wabash, the Schwob School of Music at Columbus State University, and the United States Military Academy at West Point.
Although he majors in science in college, he still plays music at a professional level. Ms. Song’s piano lessons significantly helped build his confidence as a musician; music has become his lifelong friend.
